Biography
Dr. Kari-Lynn Winters is an award-winning picture book author, playwright, and scholar.
With a drama/theatre background, Kari-Lynn delivers dynamic, interactive presentations that are both educational and engaging for students!
She enjoys being in the classroom in any capacity, as a presenter, a teacher, a professor, or as a student. She recently accepted a assistant professor position at Brock University in the Teacher Education Department to teach drama-in-education and literacy.

Guest speaker/presentation information
1) Performance/presentations (Grades Pre-school-grade 5):
This 45 minute interactive presentation incorporates puppets, songs, improvisation, and readings from my published works (books and magazine stories/poems). In addition, several different literacy strategies will be represented. Following the presentation I will offer a question period and a book signing session.
2) Moving into literacy workshops for grades PK-3: During this hour long, arts-based workshop (using dance, drama, visual art, and music), I will demonstrate several age-appropriate reading comprehension and writing composition strategies.
3) Dramatic Writing Workshops for grades 4-adult: Using my published works (books and magazine stories/poems), I will lead a one hour workshop which emphasizes the 6+1 traits of writing. This workshop will incorporate drama and visual art techniques.
Presentation geographic range: Vancouver, Coast, Lower Mainland, Gulf and Vancouver Islands, Thompson Okanagan, Northern British Columbia, Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, Kootenay Rockies, The Territories, Canada - beyond BC, USA
Presentation audience age groups: primary school, grades K-3, grades 4-6, grades 7-8, high school, college/university/adult

Awards & recognition
-On My Walk was a finalist for the 2010 BC Book Prize and short-listed for the 2011 Chocolate Lily Award.
Jeffrey and Sloth was a finalist for the 2008 BC Book Prize, the 2008 Blue Spruce Award, and the 2009 Chocolate Lilly Award. It also won the ABC's of Education Award.
