Biography

Caroline grew up on a Peace River homestead, went on to UBC to earn a B.A. and Teacher's Certificate, worked, studied and travelled in Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Europe, and the UK. She then earned a Diploma in Creative Writing from David Thompson University Centre in Nelson. She began her writing career with a weekly column in the Alaska Highway News for two years while still in high school and has since published poetry, non-fiction essays and journalism, short and long fiction, stage and radio plays, and children's literature. After working a great variety of white, pink and blue collar jobs, Caroline is now writing nearly full-time and working as a relief lightkeeper, based on Lennard Island Lightstation near Tofino.

Caroline is comfortable with children of all ages and prefers interactive formats with opportunities for each child to ask questions. She has taught creative writing workshops for all ages since 1985 at venues as varied as the Kamloops Young Authors Conference, Elder Hostel and the Kootenay Lake Summer School of the Arts. Her wide-ranging publishing career and interesting life experiences gives her lots of scope to tailor workshops to each age and interest group. Her training as a teacher, extensive field work with English as a second language and diverse theatrical and musical interests enable her to present lively and productive writing workshops. She has given over 300 public readings of her work in schools, libraries, post-secondary classrooms, community halls and Festivals across Canada and in Washington State.

Presentation geographic range: Vancouver, Coast, Lower Mainland, Gulf and Vancouver Islands, Thompson Okanagan, Northern British Columbia, Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, Kootenay Rockies, The Territories, Canada - beyond BC, USA
