Biography

A writer, editor and creative writing instructor for more than 20 years, I turned to writing for children in Jan 2007.

My first book Meeting Miss 405 (Orca) was published in October 2008 and was the winner of the 2009/2010 BC Chocolate Lily Award (fiction category). It was also a nominee for the 2010 Forest of Reading Silver Birch Express and the Saskachewan Diamond Willow.

The Ballad of Knuckles McGraw was published April 2010, and is a nominee for the 2012 BC Chococalte Lily and was was nominated for the 2011 Silver Birch Express. A midgrade novel Silver Rain was published October 2010 and is a nominee for the 2012 BC Chocolate Lily.

A teen a hi-lo Beyond Repair came out in Spring 2011.

Scheduled for publication from Orca Book Publishers in 2012 is THE PAPER HOUSE (Spring), THE WRONG BUS (spring) and are DISCONNECT (fall)

My first illustrated children's story 'When Papa Works the Night Shift' appeared in the fall 2010 issue of REAL Magazine for Children and a second 'Something to Worry About' was published in the winter 2010 issue.

Other books in the works include those for children ranging in age from 3-17.

Of my 31 years with a large suburban public library, seven were spent working in children's services, conducting countless storytimes, tours and other programs for children. I have also performed as a storyteller at a number of festivals and children's events.

I offer Magic Carpet Storytellng Workshops for children as a way to give a voice to their stories and allow them to experience a collaborative approach to sharing their creative energies.

I also teach creative writing workshops to elementary and high school students and offer presentations to writing groups in Canada and the UK.

My book 101 - and more - Writing Exercises to Get You Started & Keep You Going (www.mettapublications.com) is popular with writing groups, high school classes and creative writing instructors.

I also operate The Surrey Writers School which partners will local community agencies in literacy and literary activities. www.surreywritersschool.com
