Biography

Maxwell Newhouse was born in Campbell River, British Columbia on August 1,1947. Early in his youth he excelled in art. Feeling the need to paint and draw it became his personal goal to make art his passion. In recent years, he has become particularly noticed for his wonderfully detailed and lively folk art paintings with their whimsical themes and careful attention to the details of everyday life.

In 2001 he was published by Tundra using the style of art he has become known for. At present he has two illustrated children’s book and two author/illustrated.
Max and his wife Lillian have three children, two sons and a daughter. After living in Vancouver and the North Shore for 20 years, they moved to the Fraser Valley and know lives in Cultus Lake.

Along with Maxwell’s love for painting he enjoys building driftwood furniture, finding unique driftwood from his trips to various shorelines in British Columbia. He has created some very interesting pieces from the treasures he has found on the beach.
Maxwell is an animal lover, he has many pets a cat and two dogs which are his constant companions.

Guest speaker/presentation information

Maxwell loves to grip his audience with slides of art, from his books and his hero’s.
He has a keen way of sharing his enthusiasm for art with the children and is infectious with his humour.
Although he will read from the text of his books, he’ll often engage the audience and makes them part of the adventure. He does this by adding interesting comments about his stories and gives a little insight into the creative process.
At the end of each presentation he will have time for a question and answer period.
