Biography

Jacqueline Pearce was born in Vancouver in 1962 and grew up on Vancouver Island. Jacqueline always wanted to be a writer, but first she got degrees in English Literature (UVic 1985) and Environmental Studies (York 1990), and worked at various jobs, including daycamp leader, museum accessionor, and environmental educator. Once, she was even paid to watch children's cartoons (for a study of how cartoons and toys influence children's play and imagination).

Themes in Jacqueline's work include friendship, bullying, self-esteme, multicultural awareness, and relationships with nature and animals.

When not writing, Jacqueline can be found creating art, listening to audio books, watching wildlife, playing road hockey or hanging out with her family and watching her cat chase her dog.

Book types: juvenile fiction, YA fiction

Guest speaker/presentation information

Based in the Vancouver area, Jacqueline is available for book talks and readings. School talks are appropriate for grades three and up and include discussion of the writing and publishing process as related to Jacqueline's own books and experience. Talks can be geared to whichever book(s) or theme interests the class (for example, a discussion of "Discovering Emily" and "Emily's Dream" can include information on the life of artist Emily Carr and life in the 19th century).
